The National Intelligence Service announced on the 5th that Korea has joined the NATO Cyber Defense Center (CCDCOE) for the first time in Asia.
The NATO Cyber Defense Center was launched in May 2008 for NATO member states to respond to cyber stomach cooperatives since the Estonian national system was paralyzed in 2007 with large -scale hacking in Russia. It is regarded as the world's best in cyber security, such as cyber attacks, defense training, strategy and policy research.
The only countries that have joined the full -time members are Korea, Canada, Luxembourg, and non -NATO. The NIS said, "The international community recognizes our cyber capabilities."
As a result, the Cyber Defense Center members have become a total of 32 countries. There are 27 sponsored countries consisting of NATO member states, and five 'contributors' in which non -NATO member states belong to Korea. Most intelligence agencies and counties are working as practical institutions.
The NIS, which represented Korea, plans to strengthen its capacity to respond to cyber response by increasing the number of employees of the Cyber Defense Center and expanding the scope of joint training. The NIS has been promoting regular members of the Cyber Defense Center since 2019 to acquire the global cyber threat response strategy, the protection of core infrastructure, and the know -how of response to cyber infringement.
It is expected that cyber security international networks will be strengthened, such as the increase in joint training and policy research opportunities hosted by NATOs in the future, and the right to speak in the international cyber policy discussion process.
The NIS said, "Recently, cyber threats are causing enormous damage to individuals, individual countries, and transnational countries. We will work closely with member states to thoroughly defend the security of the Republic of Korea and the safety of our people in the cyber space and contribute to world peace. ”
